Dr. Jennifer Turner is the founder & CEO of MAD COOL MEDIA, a new company that is focused on supporting the next generation of storytelling by meeting audiences where they are with the stories that authentically resonate with them. She founded the company based on the opportunities she sees in the current media and entertainment marketplace, and her extensive experience creating and monetizing hit television.
Working on both the business and creative sides of television, Dr. Jennifer Turner has been leading and managing divisions within large media companies such as Disney, NBCUniversal, and Sony for over 20 years. Dr. Turner was most recently EVP and head of TriStar Television, the boutique label of Sony Pictures Television. She was responsible for developing and producing bold, new stories from diverse perspectives, and championing underrepresented stories driving cultural conversations airing on premium cable and streaming platforms. In addition to creative oversight of the label, Dr. Turner was responsible for setting TriStar’s overall strategy and leading and managing TriStar’s operations. Dr. Turner has worked on many hit TV shows throughout her career including “The Good Doctor”, “The Blacklist”, “The Boys”, “Desperate Housewives”, “Grey’s Anatomy”, and “Lost.”
She began her creative career in television as Director, ABC Daytime Programming, for the ABC Television Network Group and was creative executive for daytime dramas “Port Charles” and “General Hospital.” On the business side, she started and ran Bravo Media and Oxygen Media’s business development departments where she was responsible for extending the networks’ brands into revenue-generating businesses in partnership with advertisers such as ConAgra Foods. She started her television career as Business Manager for Toon Disney, ABC Kids, and SOAPnet, managing strategic planning and business initiatives. Prior to her media career, Dr. Turner worked for Goldman Sachs in New York as a financial analyst in Fixed Income Capital Markets.
Dr. Turner has been recognized for her achievements many times throughout her career including being featured in Variety’s Inclusion Impact Report 2019 and Variety’s New York Women’s Impact Report 2021. In 2022, she was a Multichannel News Wonder Women LA honoree. She was also the recipient of the 2023 African American Film Critics Association “Salute to Excellence” award, and the 2023 recipient of the Garden State Film Festival’s “Exceptional Women in Film” award. In 2024, Dr. Turner was recognized by Women We Admire as one of the “Top 50 Women Leaders of New York City.”
Dr. Turner is an advocate for empowerment in people, organizations, and communities, with a particular focus on women and girls. She believes in the power of content and community to improve society. She founded edutainment brand MAD COOL FITNESS, an inclusive, health empowerment, lifestyle brand, and non-profit MAD COOL COMMUNITY. The non-profit partners with community institutions addressing the social determinants of health, with a particular focus on partnering with schools and youth support organizations, such as the Boys & Girls Clubs of America, to facilitate youth health empowerment.
Dr. Turner holds a Doctor of Public Health specializing in health education and behavioral science from Rutgers School of Public Health, a Master of Business Administration from Stanford University, a Bachelor of Finance from the Wharton School of Business of the University of Pennsylvania, and a Bachelor of Japanese Language from the University of Pennsylvania. She is an avid runner and a classically trained violinist.
